PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT

Strikes Policy
Tu Shanshu functions on a three-strikes policy. Failure to comply with the rules can and do result in a strike. Strikes are not given out publicly, and generally result when a mod has to speak with a player privately to address contraventions of game policy. When these discussions result in a strike, the member will be made aware of it at such time. The moderators reserve the right to omit the strikes system in the case of evidenced toxic or harmful behaviour by any player, such as harassment or stalking, etc.

Game Rating & Content
Tu Shanshu has no rating ceiling for content, though members are expected to respect age and preference boundaries when playing with the other characters (i.e. no 18A content to be written with a minor). Rating and major warnings should be included in logs and on network posts as applicable. That all said, this is not a sex game. Sexual content is not barred, but should be clearly marked if it occurs. In other words, try to keep things tasteful and clearly marked for ratings variations at the 14A level and higher.

How's My Driving?
Tu Shanshu requires all players to have an HMD post in their journal for the submission of comments and critiques. It is up to the player's preference whether IP logging or anonymous commenting is activated.

On a quarterly basis, a game-wide HMD will be posted by the mods that will have IP logging off and anonymous commenting on. Listing one or all of your characters on this HMD is completely voluntary. The mods have contact information and a game-specific HMD post here that is always open, where IP logging is off and anon commenting is activated. Constructive criticism for game policies or activities is welcomed and appreciated. Please note that crit related to this game and/or mod actions, posted in a public forum such as anon communities, will not be addressed as constructive criticism provided in the HMD will be. We cannot, unfortunately, be everywhere at once and therefore could miss such crit, which is why we ask you to bring it to us directly.

Cause and Effect (ICA = ICC)
When playing in Tu Shanshu, remember that in-character actions trigger in-character consequences. This is just like real life, but with the occasional dash of superpowers tossed into the mix. All members are expected to respect these cause-and-consequences. This basically means that if your character pokes the bear, don't be surprised when the bear pokes back. Especially when it comes to the legal system in Keeliai, because the kedan have decided they're capable of enforcing the laws they've chosen. Additionally, there will most likely be repercussions from fellow Foreigners, depending on the severity of the transgression.

IC =/= OOC
There exists a line between OOC knowledge and IC knowledge that is to be respected by all players. Characters making drastic assumptions beyond their canon deductive skills and based on OOCly obtained knowledge are considered to be acting out of character. Make sure that it is within your character's facilities to know things that may be difficult or nearly impossible for them to know. A good rule of thumb is to never include anything that you could not justify the character knowing if a mod or other player asks you about it. On a similar note, keep OOC sentiments out of IC behaviour. You may play Neo and your best friend may play Agent Smith, but the two characters shouldn't be beer buddies without serious in-character development.

Staying In Character
Each character has their own unique personality traits and these are the traits that are expected to be seen in the way each player conducts their character in-game. This represents the IC factor of the character as established in the personality of the application and the presentation of the character in their source canon. While in-game development naturally occurs over the course of participation, we should be able to trace said development and still recognize the character as apped.

Godmode: Deactivate It
We are all here to have fun and interact via fictional characters in a panfandom setting. On that note, we are not here to overwhelm or overpower. Godmoding is commonly defined as any action that does not give the other player or character sufficient opportunity to react to before being set in stone (i.e. in a tag). This includes, but is not limited to, auto-strikes in combat, auto-kill hits, assumptions about character actions, and inflexibility about player action.

Auto-strike/kill is the easiest to understand and avoid. Check with the other player before having that punch land or make sure it's okay to make contact. Remember to give the other player the opportunity to react by not putting too much action into your tags.

Character assumptions means making any comment or assumption about a character's actions that has not occurred in a thread. When you do this, you impress your view of the character on the other player and they cannot defend it, especially if they are not in that thread. Check with the other player to make sure it's a valid assumption that Logan was drinking beer at the bar yesterday, because maybe he was off trying to excavate the shell of the turtle with his adamantium claws.

Inflexibility in godmoding is what happens when player A thinks that their character can lift a thousand pounds and player B thinks, no, their character can lift a thousand pounds. In a weight-lifting competition, this is an important detail, but there can be only one winner and so someone has to give. Discuss and be flexible about your character's abilities, because even the mightiest of characters can have the mightiest of fails, if Loki's smashfest by the Hulk's hand is anything to measure by.

Remember to, above all, be courteous and obtain permission before you do anything that directly impacts the other character in a scene or thread.

Attitude
When all things are said and done, we're all here to have fun and our attitudes should reflect that. We're not asking for you to be sunny 100% of the time, but displays of constant negativity or foul attitude tend to ruin the mood for everyone. Be respectful, be polite, to both your fellow players and your mods. That's what we're asking here.

Headcesting
Members that have two or more characters are expected to keep those characters separate. Writing threads or posts between your own in-game roster is not to occur.

Fourth Wall
Tu Shanshu treats fourth walling as a form of godmoding and therefore any instances of character A knowing character B from reading their comics, etc. should be checked with all involved players before being included in a tag. DO NOT FOURTH WALL WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM THE FULL CAST OF THAT CANON. One character being fourth-walled impacts all characters from a canon.

ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS

Activity Checks
The activity check will be posted on the first of each month and members will have five days to submit in a comment the activity for each of their characters in the previous month. The initial results will then be posted, and reclaims opened for an additional three days.

If you don't meet requirement for a character within a month, it will result in the character taking a strike (note, this is NOT a player strike!) and they will need to be reclaimed by posting to the AC results post. If you note in your AC submission that you have insufficient activity and would like to use your reclaim for the character, we will automatically apply it when we confirm your AC submission, meaning you will not have to additionally post to the reclaim post. (If there is no confirmation on the AC post, you will still need to reclaim via the Reclaim post.)

Characters may be reclaimed once every six months by the member that played them, but then cannot be reclaimed again until six months have passed. If a character who has been reclaimed within six months then takes another strike, they'll be dropped at the conclusion of the AC period. The results post will be edited at the conclusion of the reclaim period to reflect the outcome of the month's check, at which point you must re-apply if you wish to play a character that was removed due to inactivity.

Comment Counts
Tu Shanshu requires that every active character in the game have at least fifteen (15) comments across a maximum of three threads for that character in each month. Note that the threads must be on a post that is dated within that month to qualify. A thread comment must be in a log or in a network post, and multiple threads from the same post can be used. IC inboxes do not count toward AC; reaction spam comments (as in 1/4, 2/4... etc) only count as one reply.

In the instance of closed logs (or locked network posts with no public content), please note that only one thread from these entries qualifies for the AC's overall comment count, including the entry itself as one comment.

EXAMPLE: If you make a log locked to two people that accumulates one thread with 10 comments and a second thread with 5 comments, you can only use one of them rather than the whole post counting as the required 15 comments. However if the same post were to have two people reply but one of the threads hit 15 comments by that character in itself including the entry as a "starter comment", that could be used. Please note that this only applies to closed logs/posts that limit the number of participants; multiple threads from public network posts or from open/catch-all logs are exempted from this stipulation.

If you have used a thread with a single character to meet your entire AC in one month (all 15+ comments), you cannot use that character as your sole AC in the following month.

EXAMPLE: I'm playing Luke Skywalker and for this month's AC I submitted a single thread with Han Solo (with 15+ comments) to make my activity. That means that next month, I'm not permitted to use only Han again, even if I've done a dozen threads with other characters since. However, 15 comments accumulated across threads with Leia Organa, Yoda AND Han Solo is perfectly acceptable.

Players that have been on hiatus for two or more weeks during the month will be exempt from the activity check for that month assuming they post their hiatus on the hiatus post. You will be notified when your hiatus is confirmed whether it will qualify you for hiatus exemption.

Characters accepted during the month will be exempt from that month's AC, but are still required to check in.

Players who wish to apply for a fourth or more character must have passed the two previous ACs with their full roster before permission can be given. Please note that idling a character out of the game counts as failing AC in this regard.

The mods may choose to speak to players who are regularly making only bare minimum AC, take strategic hiatus exemptions, or who we notice happen to consistently hold up plots or threads beyond what is reasonable.

Idle Out/AC Drops
Characters who are dropped during AC due to already having a strike, or failing to reply to the reclaim post, will not be able to rejoin the game until the following month. For example, a character who is idled on October's AC (which will be confirmed at the end of the reclaim period ending November 8th) would not be able to rejoin until December 1, and then the reapp would be processed along with the regular app period of that week.

Please note that this does not apply to players who have extraneous circumstances which prevent them from being able to post to AC (lack of computer access, RL emergencies, etc). If this is the case, a player only needs to let the mods know via PM or email once they've returned, so that the character can be reinstated.

AC POINTS
Activity in Tu Shanshu is rewarded with AC points, which can be redeemed for unlocking special locations, acquiring personal possessions during landfalls, gaining special items, and IC rewards such as favours from the NPCs. All points are awarded per character and cannot be transferred between characters on a player's roster.

The points breakdown is as follows:
    • Making minimum or base activity of 15 comments rewards 1 point.
    • Per every 15 tags beyond base (again, spread across maximum 3 threads apiece), rewards 1 additional point.
    • Total cap of 60 tags equaling 4 points per month, per character, available to earn.
For a complete explanation of point rewards, including where to request them, see the Reward Requests post.

New characters arriving into the game receive 5 AC points as a "starter package", to allow them Reward options within their first month.

FORMAT & MISCELLANY

Communities
There are three communities that all character accounts should be a member of:

[community profile] tushanshu is where all text, audio, and video network posts to the network go.
[community profile] tushanshu_logs is where all actionspam and prose logs go. The log header template is HERE.
[community profile] tushanshu_ooc is where all out of character posts go, including mod posts and any memes, scheduled or spontaneous.

Community Tags
Whenever you make a post or tag into a thread, players are required to tag that post with the appropriate tag for their character (post: charactername OR thread: charactername as applicable). Threads that are not tagged accordingly will not be eligible to use for AC towards your comment count.

Note that tags will be created for your character in the IC communities upon acceptance into the game. If you are having trouble with your tags not showing up, it's your responsibility to get in touch with the mods to let us know, so we can find the problem (like tags not appearing in the taglist, etc) and fix it for you!

IC Inboxes & PMs
Each character is required to host an IC inbox in their journal. An inbox permits video, audio, and text messages with the aforementioned rules (no auto-translate, anon messages can only be left from anon consoles). There is no standard code/layout to be used for IC inboxes. Interactions that happen in these inboxes can influence in-game CR, but cannot be used for AC on the grounds that it falls outside the posting/tagging/centralized system of the game (tracking and visibility).

Additionally, character journals must allow PMs from the mod journal, as this is the method by which all plot related information, such as in response to reward requests, is delivered (for tracking purposes).

Application Visibility
Accepted applications become reference material for other players that may not be familiar with the canon or character. Players are required to keep their application unscreened/unlocked in their journal if it is hosted there. This is not applicable if the entirety of the app is posted in comments on the app page, in which case, said comments may not be deleted after acceptance so long as the character remains in the game.
