( REWARD REQUESTS )

REWARD REQUESTS & ACTIVITY POINTS

GENERAL INFORMATION
Activity in Tu Shanshu is rewarded with AC points, which can be redeemed for unlocking plot developments, acquiring personal possessions, gaining special items, and IC rewards such as favours from the NPCs. All points are awarded per character and cannot be transferred between characters on a player's roster. Information on how to earn points can be found under the section on activity checks and AC points in the Rules post.

So you've racked up a few AC points. What next? Below is a list detailing what it's currently possible to spend AC points on. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list, and that more rewards might become available as the game progresses. Player suggestions are absolutely taken into consideration as well, and can be made to the game HMD.

THE PERCENTAGE POINT SYSTEM
Players who successfully complete an activity check can earn anywhere from 1 to 4 points per character, per month. These are tracked on the Reward Point spreadsheet for every character, which is mod-upkept after completing each month's AC. (So you don't need to keep track of your points, we do it for you!)

However, the redemption process for AC points works on a percentage scale, in order to best facilitate fairness between players who have different time commitments. Various types of rewards carry a different percentage cost of a character's overall total, detailed below.

A character must have a minimum of 5 AC points in order to request any rewards; new characters just joining the game are given a starter 5 points. Where the percentage becomes a partial number, the cost will always be rounded down, unless in the case of a minimum of 2 points.

Don't worry, we've provided examples!

• River has 9 AC points, and wishes to get a canon possession from home. 20% of 9 points is 1.8. Because that is lower than the minimum, River's canon possession will cost 2 points.

• Anton has 15 AC points, and wishes to have an NPC do him a favour. 20% of 15 points is 3, so Anton's favour will cost 3 points.

• Skulduggery has 32 AC points, and wants to discover a plot development. 30% of 32 points is 9.6, so his plot discovery will cost 9 points.

• Bakura has 7 AC points, and wants to find a special item. 40% of 7 points is 2.8, so his special item will cost 2 points.

• Solomon has 4 AC points. He must acquire at least 1 more AC point before he can request any rewards.

AVAILABLE TYPES OF REWARDS

CANON POSSESSIONS - 20%

So, you'd like your character to regain some of their canon possessions! These items can be anything, from aspects of their superhero life (would you like Tony Stark to be upgraded to the Mark 6 armor?) to sentimental bits and bobs from home (a picture or trinket belonging to a loved one, etc) to pets or other non-appable companions. Once the reward is approved for your character, they will discover the possession ICly either during the game's next scheduled landfall, or on the black market - whichever you decide.

When requesting this reward, players have a choice of using their AC points to purchase either one large item or two small items from their canon per reward.

Large items are defined as vehicles, firearms, items of significant power, or large pets - anything that would be noticed in Keeliai and/or grant your character an extra measure of magical competence in any field. If you're requesting a large item, then the item should be something of importance and canonically indicated to be possessed by or strongly associated with that character. Examples of this include a Green Lantern's specific power battery, a pet or similar companion associated specifically with that character (such as Naga for Korra), or weapons/armor that the character is stated to have/is seen in possession of during their canon material.

The item should not break the game or plot mechanics as established thus far, nor provide a simple answer to major conflicts. Examples of this would be any such deus ex machina item that provides a simple wrap-up to complicated issues (see: the genie lamp in Aladdin solving the Jafar problem with an itty-bitty living space).

Small items are defined as items of minor consequence that are relatively associated with or of interest to the character as established in canon. Examples of this include ambrosia for the demigods, favourite foods, books, or trinkets.

Characters may receive these items ICly as soon as the mods have approved both the reward and the suitability of the items in question. While we note that there may always be an exception to the rules outlined above, requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

NPC FAVOURS - 20%

There are a number of mod-controlled NPCs in Keeliai - Tu Yunxu, Heojin, Zanru, Xuiyu, Milyn and Aroyan being the main ones. (Details on each of these NPCs can be found on the NPCs page.) From time to time as the plot progresses, any one of these NPCs might ICly approach a player character to propose a deal or discuss a favour. If this happens, the mods will contact the player in question.

However, it's also possible for Foreigners to request favours from the NPCs. The favour can encompass anything from protection to technical knowledge to special produce. As long as the favour is one the NPCs would ICly consider, and it's within their power to grant, players can purchase these favours using OOC AC points and agreed-upon IC bargaining tools, such as a small amount of juulan.

PLOT DEVELOPMENTS - 30%

There are two primary types of plot development requests that can be made which fall under this reward type.

The first is an information reveal about an ongoing event or metaplot arc, whether it be a secret about an NPC, a discovery made from an investigation, or a clue dropped in a character's lap to kick off a new adventure. In the past, players have used this type of reward to:

• find an enemy's secret base
• discover metaplot information about the game setting
• find out information about new technology and weaponry
• track down a mysterious NPC

These are only some suggestions as to what counts as a plot development, and we are completely open to players suggesting new things. While it's not a requirement to spend points on this sort of request in order to further the game's metaplot (which everyone has access to), these particular types of rewards are highly tailored to the characters requesting them, and provide a sort of personalized aspect that many players enjoy.

The other type is a location discovery, which generally happen (but not always) during a landfall event. They can be either one-offs or places which can spur a mini-event (eg, Fountain of Youth or Beach of the Scantily-Clad Nymphomaniacs). While the possibility for discovering these locations will usually only occur during landfalls due to the limited nature of the turtle's back, they can be requested at any time.

The exact nature of these special locations is largely determined by what the players who purchase them ask for. For example, if you were to apply for a special location during a landfall and asked for a healing spring, you might not get a bona fide healing spring, but you will get something that contains water and has healing properties. What characters do with these locations is entirely up to them. Bear in mind that while the character who discovers the location is the one spending the AC points, they may ICly choose to share it with other characters in the game. This is perfectly fine, and will not result in anyone else spending AC points. Two heads are better than one, after all, and characters working together to investigate will provide more opportunity for everyone to experience the effects of these locations.

SPECIAL ITEMS - 40%

At any time during the game, a player may request a special item for their character. These special items are always magical in nature and are usually uniquely powerful. Some of them will have a long history within the world of Tu Shanshu, changing hands and owners and continents dozens of times before winding up in your character's possession; others will be unique items that fell through the Dreaming rift from other worlds and canons, just like the Foreigners did.

If you're requesting this reward, you may ask for a particular category of item, or a particular effect - for example, defense, healing, divination, levitation, etc. The exact item granted is at the discretion of the mods, but it will always be an item related to the requested category. Once OOCly granted, your character may discover the item ICly in one of two ways: on the black market or on the mainland during a landfall. The mods will provide the location of the item, but the exact method of retrieval is left up to the player.

REQUESTING A REWARD?
You apply for them on this post! A public record of the number of AC points per character is available on this gdoc.

Please note that there is a maximum limit of four (4) reward requests per character, per month and that only two of that count may be used in the same reward category. For example, you could request two canon possessions, one NPC favour and one special item, but not three canon possessions and one special item.

If you have questions about any of the rewards available or how to earn them, please contact the mods or post to the Gameplay FAQ. Otherwise, post a new comment using the template below. Please be patient as it may take a few days to answer your requests, because of time zones. If your request is time-sensitive due to metaplot, please indicate that when making the request.

Character Name: Yuri Lowell
Reward Requested: Plot Development
Additional Information: I would like some continued plot development regarding the Soul Gem Kedan. Yuri saw and talked to the one stuck in his world, and the man asked him to take care of his family if he ever got back. So Yuri will be searching for his family and has a drawing of the man provided by Valdis. In addition to finding his family, hopefully he can also stumble across some clues regarding these trapped Kedan and now to help them.

Character: Casey Ramone
Reward: Plot developments
Additional information: Casey would like to know so much more about the Rakenga on Tavimbi. Hearing the dragon-like creatures are being hunted for food, and being from a world where dragons are friends not food (and, you know, being the soul of a dragon), this is very upsetting. They would first try searching records but may even end up doing something dumb like hiking around outside in safe areas trying to catch sight of them in the distance depending on what the information is/how it is received.

Character Name: Valdis
Reward Requested: Armor of the Spirit (Canon Possession)
Additional Information:
Originally forged by the Archangel Michael as a gift to Meira, the Armor of the Spirit is an angelic armor that cannot be dented or pierced. It absorbs part of an impact and distributes it over a larger area, though a hard enough blow could still cause bruises. It is a fairly light armor, built to allow the wearer more freedom of movement, giving it more weak points, but it was mostly designed to prevent fatal injuries. The armor resists magical attacks aligned with darkness. The armor is attuned to Valdis’ soul in a similar way that Revelations is and can be stored within the red gem in the hilt to be summoned when needed.

Character Name: China Sorrows
Reward Requested: Plot development, I think.
Additional Information: This is a followup to Valdis' investigation, as detailed here. In other words: looking for some link between the houses and shops Indin stopped at while she was being trailed, with the ultimate goal of tracking down who poisoned Anton back when. Since Valdis specified that she was looking for who hurt Anton, China herself will be pursuing that information as well, for her own purpose and possible dispensing to Valdis.

I would like as much in this vein as you reasonably think China and her fledgling network can ferret out.

Additional Information: Klaus is currently investigating the Xunetune as a possible means of waking (or helping to wake) the turtle. He'd be looking for as much information as possible about how it works, if it's really sentient, etc. He'd also be trying to gauge the reactions of those he talks to about it with generally innocuous questions like "could the Xunetune and TuVishan hypothetically communicate" and that sort of thing (look subtlety isn't his foray).

Additional Information: I'd like to get Raine a rheaird. This is an aerial magitechnology vehicle that runs on minimal amounts of lightning (and probably wind) mana. It can be minimized into something called a wing pack for easy access, storage, and transportation; I would ideally like Raine to get her rheaird in one. Wing packs are designed to make things easy to carry, and as such are probably not larger than a breadbox. I would guess maybe the size of two fists, but the game isn't specific.

If that's not acceptable, I'm happy to take just the rheaird. She'll find a place to put it.

Character Name: Bisi
Reward Requested: Rhino Warframe
Additional Information: Rhino is a Warframe - a robotic surrogate designed for Tenno to remotely pilot via Somatic link, and to channel Void powers through - that focuses on raw durability and physical strength. In addition to being one of the physically toughest and strongest warframes, Rhino has his own cache of abilities, namely:
Charge - Rhino can dash forward at blinding speed, smashing things in his path
Iron Skin - Rhino can create an impenetrable layer of armor over his body that renders him immune to damage or influence until it is worn down.
Roar - Rhino can temporarily enhance the abilities and efficacy of himself and those around him.
Stomp - Rhino can hit the ground with enough force to create local time disturbances, freezing enemies in their tracks for a short duration, in addition to an impressive amount of physical damage.

As a warframe, Rhino comes with a very resilient and quickly regenerating deflector shield, and while he is slow by warframe standards, he is still fast and exceptionally agile, able to scale buildings and large chasms with ease, and move in total silence for infiltration missions. Warframes come with an impressive array of sensor technology, able to track and map the environment, objectives and enemies in a small 360 degree area in real time.

Warframes are heavily modular and their attributes can be tweaked in between missions to better equip them for a particular role.

Warframes are techno-organic life forms and are therefore resistant, but not immune, to biological warfare and extreme environments. Warframes require oxygen, so vacuums, deep sea and other environments that are extremely hostile to life will eventually overcome a warframe not using special equipment (like an Archwing).

Character Name: Dove
Reward Requested: Cannon possession: The Serephim's Amulet/Amulet of the Archangel
Additional Information:

EDIT: I'm so sorry, I'm trying to put this behind a cut and it's not working! :( :(

So this is almost a cross between an item request and a canon update (sort of?), but as it’s a physical item, I decided to post it here instead of bugging you guys about it with lots of questions.

I’d like to request the Michael’s/The Seraphim’s amulet for Dove.

The jewelry itself changes form to suit the appointed, though it will always be some form of amulet/necklace to be worn close to the chest. The power is not contained within the jewelry itself, but rather bestowed to the angel to which it is given, and while a beautiful trinket for anyone, the power will not be transferred until the angel has ascended (died...or in this case is in a completely different universe from the one who is supposed to have it) or has willingly denounced it.

When it comes to limitations and abilities of the power the amulet brings to its wearer, it’s honestly more a matter of what they cannot do (sort of like Lucifer). Dove, once she receives it and accepts that it has come to her, will have the power to be able to manipulate anything filled with Light, as well as command earthly and divine elements to her will. This change in her manipulation of Light is probably the biggest change she will experience, as it will enable her to manipulate more than just her fire element. NOTE: while she will be capable of doing these things, she will not understand/be adept at controlling the power (hence the character growth opportunities), and thus will not be proficient at all because of her lack of training. She will still be able to control her fire Gift, though its strength will be intensified as she will have access to the Light around her and not just her own (which may actually be a deterrent for its use for a while, until she can handle the new rush of Light). Other Gifts (such as water, lightning, earth, or wind for a few examples) will not come as easily to her, or even at all until she devotes intensive time to study. She’ll be able to do small things like grow flowers or create a gentle breeze for a few moments, but she will by no means be able to purposefully create storms or bring trees springing from the earth at this time. It will also take her time to even discover most of the powers that she will gain from possession of the amulet, and will open up CR opportunities with multiple other characters as she studies their techniques and powers.
Her healing gift will also intensify, her angel’s kiss now giving her the ability to bring back those from the dead with a Seraphim's Blessing. HOWEVER, it is an incredible task that she will know about, but will extremely hesitant to try… unless she is taught (but given the only other character in the game that knows how to do that at the moment is literally Satan, I highly doubt that will come into play any time soon).

Other Seraphim Gifts include:
Echoing voice: A form of telekinesis. Unfortunately, as she has not had the training, she will only be able to communicate in the faintest form of a mental whisper, most likely unintentionally for a while. I plan to have her find out about this ability completely on accident by thinking things she probably shouldn’t around people that can ‘hear’ her.
Tongues of Fire: universal communication/languages

Absolute Limitations:
-She cannot manipulate will, nor will she ever be able to manipulate will. That is a demon trait, and she is not allowed, nor is she able to attempt it.
--Always an exchange of Light: if the object does not have Light in it, there must be an exchange, or she’ll have to find a way around it. (for example: there is no light in rocks, dirt, etc. She can’t manipulate things that are not ‘living’.)
-She WILL NOT know how to control or even access the full potential the seraphim amulet pulls from her
-Her physical strength will remain the same as it always has been.
-It will make her extremely susceptible to darkness-- should it be able to reach her in the first place. Luckily, for those in her cannon, not much that is dark is willing to take on something with that much Light, but on the Turtle… who’s to say?

Bottom line/TL;DR: The amulet will make her powerful in that she is capable of learning to do pretty much anything involving energy/Light, but she’ll be extremely crippled in that she is not at all prepared and hasn’t had any of the training required of the archangel, and it makes her weaker to darkness once it’s overtaken her.

I hope that’s a little clearer than mud, at least… if you guys need me to clarify anything, let me know!

amberdrake: shadowscapes art (if you need to fall apart)

[personal profile] amberdrake 2016-04-14 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Aroihkin
Contact: DW PM

Character Name: Amberdrake k'Leshya
Reward Requested: CANON POSSESSION -- A flock of messenger birds from his world. They'd find their way to him on their own pretty fast. I say a flock because they're only zebra-finch sized (we're talking ounces) and are highly social. And a little flock of 'em is certainly nothing compared to, say, one of Tony's Iron Man suits. XD
Additional Information:

They're about as intelligent as toddlers, with some cat-like mannerisms (one licks Drake's cheek at the end of the quote below). They all have Mind-Speech, in that even one without the Gift can be heard thinking by them if the thoughts are directed purposefully at them, like orders. Drake is shown doing it while a bird is on his finger and he's making eye contact.

Typed up from pages 301-305 of the kindle version of Black Gryphon:

-----

The birds were easy enough to come by most times; they swarmed the camp, and all you had to do to attract one was to scatter some of their favorite seed on the ground and wait. Amberdrake didn't need the services of a bird often, but he did have a small store of the succulent sunseeds handy, since people liked the savory seeds as well as the little birds did. And Amberdrake was no exception to that liking.

He had a bag in his quarters, next to the bed; he dug out a handful, and took the fat, striped seeds to the cleared area in front of the tent, where he scattered them in a patch of sunlight. A few moments later, he had his choice of a dozen birds, all patterned in every color imaginable. They pounced on the seeds with chortles and chirps, making a racket all out of proportion to their small size.

He watched them for a moment, trying to pick out a smart one, then chose a clever little fellow whose colors of red and black with vivid blue streaks in his hackles made him easy to see at a distance. He whistled to it and leaned dwn to extend his hand, sendin it a little tendril of comforting thought to attract it. The bird hopped onto his outstretched hand with no sign of fear and waited for his orders, cocking its head sideways to look at him.

While these were not the altered birds of prey favored by the Kaled'a'in, they were able to respond fairly well to limited mental commands. Amberdrake held the bird so that he could look directly into one bright bronze eye, and made his orders as simple as he could.

:Go to gryphon-field. Wait for gryphons. Look for this one--: He mentally sent an image of Zhaneel. :Listen, return, and repeat what you heard.:

That last was a fairly common order, when someone wanted to know what was going on in another part of the camp. The birds could recall and repeat several sentences, and the odds were good that at least one of those sentences would give some idea of what was happening at a distant location. And if it didn't--well you could send the bird back to eavesdrop some more.

The bird flew off, lumbering away rather like a beetle. They weren't strong flyers, and they were fairly noisy about it; their wings whirred with the effort of keeping their plump little bodies aloft, and they usually chirped or screeched as they flew. So if you didn't want anyone to know what you were about, you had plenty of warning before you actually saw a messenger-bird arrive to snoop. But many people made pets of specific birds, as much for their engaging personalities and clownish antics as for their usefulness, so you had to really go to an extraordinary amount of effort to avoid them.

There would, without a doubt, be hundreds of birds waiting at the gryphons' landing field. Although it was supposed to be something of a secret that the Sixth Wing was going to try to retake Stelvi Pass, enough people knew that the area would look as if the birds had learned of a major sunseed spill there. That was the discreet way of learning about something the outcome of which was supposed to be a secret; send a bird to watch, rather than looking around yourself.

And I am nothing if not discreet.

(( skipped some non-bird stuff ))

He was tying up his hair when the chattering of the messenger-bird brought him to the front of his tent.

He held up his hand, his eyes straining to spot the red dot of the bird against the bright sky. The little red-and-black creature whirred in, and backwinged to a landing on his finger, still chattering at a high rate of speed. He placed one hand on its back to calm it, and it fell silent for a moment.

As he took his hand away, it muttered to itself a little, then began repeating what it had heard. Although its voice was very much that of a bird, the cadences and accents were readily identifiable as individual people. Sometimes the clever little things could imitate a favorite person so well you would swear the person it was imitating was there before you.

But the first thing that the bird produced was a series of crowd noises, among which a few phrases were discernible. "She's exhausted." "Get water!" "It isss all rrright--" this last obviously being Zhaneel.

Then the voice of Trainer Shire. "Zhaneel, I have a link to Urtho here, can you give him a quick report?"

The bird spoke again in Zhaneel's voice, her sibilants hissed and r's rolled, much as Skan spoke when he was agitated or weary. "The box hasss worrrrked. It made explossssionssss, and killed many, ssso the sssticksss mussst have been sssshielded. Therrre arrre injurrrred gryphonssss, but no dead. The ssssmoke wasss ssssprrreading when we rrrreturrrned, and the fighterrrsss moving in. The rrressst follow me."

The bird imitated the sound of a cheering crowd with uncanny accuracy, Zhaneel saynig that she was fine and would take care of herself, and the voice of Winterhart countermanding that, and ordering hertasi to be in readiness for injured grphyons coming in.

Amberdrake very nearly cheered himself; he gave the little bird his reward of fruit and sent him off to rejoin his flock with such elation that he came close to giving the bird more fruit than it could carry away. He did kiss it, an endearment which the little clown accepted with a chortle, returning the caress with its mobile tongue.

Character Name: Padmé Amidala
Reward Requested: A herd of Shaak
Additional Information: Shaak are herbivores of Naboo that look like giant ticks of sorts. They're non-sentient, so no extra work is needed for them. They'd be good for a district with lots of grasslands, sort of like sheep on the White House lawns. =P

Character Name: Yorda
Reward Requested: Plot development
Additional Information: In this thread, Yorda suggests trying her magic to see if it can activate any past memories lingering in the cultist hideout and if they can glean any insight on their activities. The basic gist of what would happen is in her powers section - Yorda's presence would possibly set off a vision of the past or (more unlikely) a possible future occurrence. Only China would see it. The visions shown in the novel are usually incidents in the past that are tied to strong, emotional moments, or, in the case of the first vision Ico received, foreshadowing things that have yet to occur and couched heavily in symbolism.
